Side Effect: Burmese Punk - Studio 360 →
My college friend Ike just did this great piece on a Burmese punk rock band whose Indie Go Go (a service like kickstarter) account got frozen for violating US sanctions against Myanmar.
Have a listen!
Maryland's Batman Looks Like A Real Hero →
npr:
After the news broke that police in Montgomery County, Md., last week stopped Batman for not having the correct plates on his Batmobile, many naturally wanted to know more about the man behind that mask.
The Washington Post today profiles the mysterious Caped Crusader, and it turns out that he does seem to be something of a real life hero to sick children around Washington, D.C. -Mark...

Barista: I like your dress
Me: thanks! Except the woman who owns that store behind the bush (yes, there is a store behind a bush near my office) told me it makes me look like I'm 8.
Barista: Well that's a good thing! It's cute!
Me: *blushes*
Barista: Well, I guess I'm just the daddy type

My friend CT, who wrote my 2.5 week half-marathon training plan, rocked a 5k over the weekend. Go CT!
runlifeprogramerror:
Haven’t raced a 5k in a while. I definitely haven’t felt the urge too either! This year I felt differently though. Most of it can be attributed to my training being pretty satisfying and optimal for running a faster, shorter race, and it fits in well as speedwork in...

In Africa’s Vanishing Forests, the Benefits of... →
The New York Times wrote about a work client. I don’t work on this project, but this is super interesting!
Since it’s actually a story about environmental issues in Africa, it didn’t involve any pandas, which is a shame. I’m just here to fill that hole.

Ill-Prepared for Saturday's Half Marathon
me: what does it actaully meant to carbo load
it just means eat pasta right
like, i don't have to eat a bucket of it
Amy: no no that's def not a good idea
it's to store more fast-burning glycogen in your muscles so you do not fatigue after you burn through your normal stores
me: what do you eat?
Amy: The past two days more complex carbs like fruits and veggies/legumes, but transitioning into a mix of complex/simple carbs (not sugar) so that I'm not too weighed down from so much fiber
and bananas.
me: all the time bananas?
Amy: nah, like a banana a day, and probably 2 on Friday

I came across a great article last week by Laura Vanderkam about time management. The gist of the article is that we’re probably not as busy as we think we are; we just can’t prioritize everything that needs to get done. We need to understand that’s OK and not feel like we’re letting…
