The Chinese Lady Gaga Video Explained →
In the pantheon of viral videos, the clip of Chinese retirees, on a Hollywood-Squares-like stage-set covering a Lady Gaga song earns its distinction. A week or two after it took flight, it is still going, so it might be worth explaining what is actually going on. This clip comes from Hunan TV’s Mid-Autumn Festival celebration, an annual television extravaganza roughly along the lines of the...

Wait Wait ...Don't Tell Me gets its own TV show! →
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nprfreshair: analogplanets: I maybe find this entirely too exciting.  “Wait Wait” creator Doug Berman says it would be a typical show, “except NPR has to add a budget line for pants.” very awesome! [pics from Wait Wait in LA back in 2008]

I've been waiting for GQ to post their pizza party...
Chris Heath: Completely different subject. I'm interested in this Donna Summer song that you quoted in the debates and you quoted in your book.
[In an August debate, in his closing statement, Cain quoted a favorite lyric sung by Donna Summer in "The Power of One," though he described her only as a "poet."—CH]
Herman Cain: I heard the song in a collage that NBC put together following the 2000 Olympics. And as it turns out, the song comes from the Pokémon movie, and I didn't know that.
Chris Heath: It's the theme of the movie.
Herman Cain: That's what I've been told. And so I fell in love with this song, fell in love with how she sang the song, and fell in love with the words. Committed it to memory. Now, why did I commit it to memory? Because one of the things that I did before I ran for president is I was a professional speaker. Not a motivational speaker—an inspirational speaker. Motivation comes from within. You have to be inspired. That's what I do. I inspire people, I inspire the public, I inspire my staff. I inspired the organizations I took over to want to succeed. I love the song: [almost singing] Life can be a challenge / Life can seem impossible / It's never easy, when there is so much on the line / But you can make a difference. [laughs]

Hurt feeling reports, "girly man signatures," and... →
A Wyoming high school football coach forces his players to fill out a “hurt feelings report” describing their feelings with homophobic and sexist language. He resigned, but this certainly is not good PR for middle America. I mean, I’m mostly offended by his misspelling of easily and the missing hyphen in woman like, but you know whatever. Don’t miss the actual survey...

It is, is it?
yunik: It is what you MAKE of it.  (Do not despair, dear!) It is what YOU make of it.  (It is in your hands and no one else’s.) It is WHAT you make of it.  (THAT is the question.) It is what you make OF it.  (Lemonade comes OF lemons, after all.) IT is what you make it.  (We’re talking ‘bout the same thing here, right?) It IS what you make of it.  (But of course!) It is what you make of...

Why Americans Should Care About Global Health →
The Global Health Technologies Coalition (a work client) produced a video series with important people on why they should care about Global Health. My favorite is Whoopi Goldberg (I’m such a philistine…) because she says AIDS doesn’t care if you’re an “itty, bitty baby.” Check it out!
